AWG (American Wire Gauge)
Definition
A standardized wire gauge system used primarily in North America. Lower AWG numbers indicate thicker wires with lower resistance and higher current capacity.
Practical Note
Every decrease of 3 AWG sizes approximately doubles the cross-sectional area and halves the resistance per length.
