Mechanical Efficiency

Definition

The ratio of output power to input power, expressed as a percentage. Accounts for energy losses due to friction, heat, and other factors.

Practical Note

Typical spur gear efficiency is 95-98% per mesh. Worm gears can be 50-90% depending on lead angle.
